J. Stanley is a member of the Navajo tribe and has been painting for 5 years with a spray paint medium. J. enjoys encompassing Navajo designs, Diné way of life, history and teachings in paintings.
She grew up on the Navajo reservation in Kayenta, Arizona, near Monument Valley Tribal Park. J uses the Monument Valley landscape in a variety of ways in her paintings as tribute to her "backyard", where her father's side of the family is from. She now resides in Phoenix, Arizona.
She was first fascinated by the street artists depicted in youtube videos of live art in the streets of Las Vegas and New York, using spray paint. From there she studied various techniques and began to purchase supplies (paint, posterboards, box cutters, blue tape, etc.) little by little to practice on her own. J continued to watch youtube videos of various street artists and began to hone in on her own 'flavor', embedding her own Navajo designs and thinking (what Navajos refer to as "Nitsáhákees").
As you'll notice, J enjoys utilizing a multitude of colors in her paintings as her way of bringing life to a painting. Using all of the colors of the rainbow as much as she can to bring about 'happiness' but in a subtle way it's also her way of supporting the LGBTQ community as an ally.
